ROSH HASHANAH AND YOM KIPPUR
EP 8 – 2009-09-13
ROSH HASHANAH AND YOM KIPPUR
Rosh Hashanah is one of two High Holy days in the Jewish religion, the other being Yom Kippur, which occurs 10 days after Rosh Hashanah begins. During the High Holidays, Jews cleanse their soul and get the chance to start fresh with an unburdened conscience and the intention of doing better in the coming year.
Yom Kippur, literally the Day of Atonement, is the holiest day of the Jewish year. It is believed that on Rosh Hashanah, God inscribes all of our names in the “books”, and on Yom Kippur the judgement entered in these books is sealed. Yom Kippur is essentially our last chance to demonstrate repentance and change Gods judgment. On Yom Kippur, our fate for the coming year is sealed.
