Recently, Joanne Jowell launched her book On the Other Side of Shame. Joanne's book records the true story of Lynette, a young Jewish girl growing up in 1960s South Africa, who fell pregnant at age 17. Knowing that her conservative Jewish family would never recover from the scandal of her illegitimate pregnancy, she hid her condition until she was seven months pregnant.

The moving account of Lynette's personal experience makes riveting reading, and is all the more interesting as Joanne discovers in the course of her research that Lynette was, in fact, her mother's first cousin!
