MATZAH
During the festival of Pesach / Passover Jews around the world eat what is called matzah, which is unleavened bread made simply from flour and water and cooked very quickly. This commemorates the fact that the Jews leaving Egypt were in a hurry, and did not have time to let their bread rise. We visited with a group of children making their own matzah and joined in the fun.
SHTETL SONG - ‘MILK AND HONEY’
‘It’s a very youthful word, it can get you through the day’ – In the autumn of her years , Molly Picon, the Doyenne (diva) of Yiddish theatre was lured back to the bright lights of Broadway to salute the first decade of Israel statehood with a musical triumph ‘Milk and Honey’. It borrowed its appropriate title from the biblical prophecy, this show stopper would in turn acquire a universal meaning.
