SPICES OF THE TEMPLE
In the days of the Temple in Jerusalem, the Kohanim were priests responsible for worship ceremonies, such as leading services, offering sacrifices, burning incense and more. The High Priest, called HaKohen HaGadol, was the head of all the priests He conducted services in the Temple on Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the Jewish year and he was the only person allowed to enter the Holy of Holies, the holiest place in the Temple.

YIDDISH SONG
Yid’l mit’n fidl – a Jewish musician and his fiddle is often featured in the works of Marc Chagall, and is essentially the character immortalised in this song. This song in fact celebrates the joy of klezmer music as played by ‘klezmorim’ or musicians. The words were written by Molly Picon, the famous, pint sized actress of stage and screen, with gigantic talent to amuse. In the film, for which this song was written, she is passionate about her music and wants to embark on a career as a musician. Her father convinces her to disguise herself as a man, to protect herself against the ways of the world.
