YIDDISH FESTIVAL
EP 4 – 2009-08-16
YIDDISH FESTIVAL
Cape Town once again hosted the Annual Yiddish Song Festival – now in its 9th year at the Baxter Theatre!
Yiddish songs speak to one across time and space, borders and boundaries. From its origins in the traditional folksongs of Eastern Europe, to stirring songs from Russia, across the oceans to the United Kingdom, United Sates and Argentina, to the southern tip of Africa – Yiddish songs have indeed bridged the continents.
Our songs reminded us of our past, and richly resonated with the new lands we now called home. Wherever we went – New York, Buenos Aires, London, Israel and South Africa - song brought us together and kept the Yiddish language alive.
